Once a lien process starts, the contents are governed by the facility's process and Illinois self-storage lien law. Talk to the facility first, since what you are allowed to remove may be restricted.

Yes. Most facilities require it be broom-clean before they close the account, so we leave it that way.

Can you handle indoor units on upper floors?

Access is often down a narrow indoor corridor requiring the facility's own flat carts, sometimes with a freight elevator on a booking system. Drive-up units are far easier.
