The village program
Groot collects for the Village of Barrington. You get one large item per pickup, plus up to one cubic yard of miscellaneous debris or construction material each week at no extra charge, as long as it is bundled under 4 feet long and 2 feet in diameter. Appliances and anything unusually heavy require a paid special pickup you have to schedule ahead.

Where that leaves you
One cubic yard is roughly a few contractor bags. A full attic, a cleared basement, or a whole-house estate cleanout runs many cubic yards, and bundling everything to under 4 feet by hand is its own weekend of work.
